The start of self employment
In this article I give you some of my insights and thoughts of being self employed and what requirements it takes.
I often wonder how I got on the path of self employment. Or why this type of career suits me the best.
On one hand it is the dream of unlimited income and financial freedom. As an employee most often the income stops increasing after a while and it has a limit. On the other hand being self employed means you can literally change anything you want. You can improve work systems, you can be a better boss, you can create a better and even more useful product or service. With your work you can have a real impact on the world and peoples life. Whereas as an employee (of course depending on the job and position) most often you just deal with the execution.
Self employment finds YOU and the journey is like a rollercoaster ride
In my early ages it was clear that someday I want my own business. I want to be the boss and live my life under my conditions - the classic "I do what I want" attitude.
Growing up I realized that that this "I do what I want" attitude has limits. No lie: It is quite the opposite. In reality it goes more like: In order to achieve my goals I have to do a lot of things I don't want to do. I'm actually not really in the mood to do this and this task. Like wtf is going on?! I thought I'm the boss.
Your character defines the path
A major realization is that to have a business and be self employed is just the top of the iceberg.
Here is the real deal:
The way you handle stuff and think about problems is an important requirement of a self employed life. It means you are responsible for everything. It means when it gets ugly you show up. It means when the building is burning you run inside. You are the person in charge - at all times. When everybody freaks out you remain calm and keep a cool head. This is called leadership.
We are not talking about the product you offer or the great service you provide- no. We talk about you. Because you are the business. It is one part of yours. And the way you take care of yourself is the same way you look at your project /dream.
Often people say their business is like their own baby. It requires this much work, attention and care. Every single day. No matter what time. It is quite a good metaphor because it is true.
I realized that I am capable of all the ugly stuff most people try to avoid all the time. I am not too cool for the boring and extra long taking tasks. I don't have a problem when things become hard before they get easy. I am aware of the fact that having no success over a long period of time can be frustrating. Early stages are just unsexy. It is what it is. But one thing is sure: I have the strength to endure through such times.
Coming to an end for todays article we can conclude that self employment and starting a business starts with you. It does not matter what you are going to offer - you have to be willing to make it happen - no matter what circumstances. It sounds easier than it is.
Enjoy life and bless up
